Summer Student Experience

We always enjoy working with students and this summer we were fortunate to receive financial support to do so through the Federal Government Summer Jobs Program.

Nate Manalili worked with us for a period of 9 weeks and managed to accomplish a lot in that short amount of time. We now have organized marketing files, a fantastic social media calendar and some new processes that will help us to streamline our marketing workflow.

Most importantly, Nate was an absolute joy to have on our team. Their positive energy, enthusiasm, and love of learning were evident daily.

We were super delighted for Nate, when they won the draw we had for a pair of tickets to see ‘Hamilton’ at the NAC!

Thank you for sharing time with us, Nate.

By Nate:

When searching for a new job to kickstart my marketing career, I came across Voice Found’s post on Linked In. The emphasis on a safe and encouraging work environment drew my eye to the post. Which I can now say, from first-hand experience, is nothing but the truth. From day one, I began my mentorship with the team's administrator, Stephanie, who helped ease my nerves with a tour of the office. Stephanie, a retired director with Cognos/IBM, was also my mentor throughout the summer with decades of experience in the marketing field. In addition, I gained major pointers from the CEO and founder of Voice Found, Cynthia Bland. One of my main responsibilities was to create content for Voice Found’s social media where Cynthia was able to provide concrete feedback and approval for designs and messaging.

Within these past 3 months, I’ve adapted to a hybrid work style with a minimum of one day in the office a week and working from home the remainder of the week. This style of work really showed me how to re-frame my work and life balance. In that sense, Voice Found has allowed for flexibility with hours as long as the work is done. On top of that, the work that needed to be done was enjoyable, and I could explore different software options for managing social media. As I have just come to the end of my degree, the timing of this experience could not have been more perfect. It’s helping me decide the career type I am looking for.

My background work experience included many retail companies where I felt I had to leave who I was at the door. At Voice Found, I was able to be a human and respected for just that. For this reason, the workflow became much easier as we worked together towards the company goals.

To conclude, it was a pivotal moment for my career, and I could not be more grateful to everyone at Voice Found for this amazing opportunity. The warm and welcoming team supported me throughout the summer, and I can not wait to see what my next adventure holds for the years to come.
